Front Page 2003

  FrontPage 2003 - Microsoft Windows

Introduction To FrontPage 2003 for Microsoft Windows:

Key Settings:

The Remote Web site location is ftp://yourdomainname.com. There is no initial directory. You will be asked to logon when you try to connect. This will take you to your web folder to which you can upload your website material.
The actual website address will be http://www.yourdomainname.com. This is where your friends and family would go with a web browser to see your web page.

Configuring FrontPage 2003 to connect to your personal web space:

After completing your web page, you'll want to transfer the files and folders to your personal web space.  In FrontPage, this is known as 'Publishing'.  To publish your web page, you'll need to connect to our server by entering the correct information.  The tutorial below discusses where and what information to enter.

On the Toolbar, click File and select Publish site from the menu.

The Remote Web Site Properties window appears.

Remote Web server type  =  select FTP from the list.

Remote Web site location  =  enter the FTP address of the server.  It follows this format:  ftp://yourdomainname.com

Click OK to continue.

The Name and Password required window appears.

Name  =  enter the username given to you by your host.

Password  =  enter the password given to you by your host.

Important:  passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock is NOT enabled.

Click OK to begin transferring files and folders.

Transferring your website with FrontPage 2003 from your computer to the server:

By now you've logged into your web space.  You should see two windows within FrontPage:  Local Web site and Remote Web site.  The Local Web site is what is on your computer while the Remote Web site is what is on the server.  To transfer your files and folders, do the following:

Towards the bottom, right corner of the screen you'll see a Publish Web site button.  Above the button are three options:  Local to remote, Remote to local, and Synchronize.

1.  To transfer files from your computer (local) to the server (remote), select Local to remote.
2.  To transfer files from the server (remote) to your computer (local), select Remote to local.
3.  To make what you have on the server (remote) the same as what you have on your computer (local), select Synchronize.

To begin transferring files, click Publish Web site.

FrontPage will transfer the files.  It may take a few minutes or more depending on the amount and size of the files being transferred.

When you finish, FrontPage will let you know if the transfer is successful or not.

Click Done.
